The project entailed
converting an existing abandoned railroad line running from Pioneer
Boulevard on the west and extending approximately 4.5 miles eastward
through the City of Whitter ending at the intersection of Lambert and
Mills Avenue. The work included the
modernization of four bridges, which are suitable for one-way vehicle
traffic and pedestrian foot traffic. The Greenway Trail is
constructed where natural areas, recreational opportunities, and
non-motorized transportation are within ease reach for all. Additionally,
the Greenway Trail offers the following: -Recreational opportunities by providing safe, accessible routes for walking, running, bicycling, and other forms of exercise, and for enjoying increasingly hard-to-find natual areas close to home. -Improves environmental quality by protecting plant and animal habitat. Improves air quality and provides a green space for conservation, and recreation. -Facilitates alternative transportaion by providing bicycle and pedestrian friendly routes between home, work, and other destinations. It connects with local and regional bus transportaion systems including Whittier Transit, MTA, Foothill Transit, Montebello Bus Lines and Norwalk Transit. | ||||
